About the founder
Founded by creative director and gemmologist Giulia Spanò di San Giuliano married Gräfin von Waldersee, Zarilù is the natural continuation of a lifelong devotion to jewellery. Her passion for jewellery has been a constant, present long before it became a profession. From early experiments with Murano glass beads and an instinctive fascination with craft, colour and detail, that curiosity was steadily cultivated over the years into a clear creative direction.
Giulia’s outlook is deeply shaped by her family heritage and upbringing. Currently based in Hamburg, Italian by birth, she grew up between two cultural poles, Sicily and Veneto. Immersed in distinct regional identities, traditions and aesthetics, she developed an early sensitivity to heritage, storytelling and refined beauty.
She began by studying management in Milan and Madrid, building a strong understanding of business, structure and an international mindset. Jewellery, however, was always at the centre. While working in high jewellery product development at the Maison Boghossian, Giulia pursued her studies in gemmology, pairing hands-on experience with rigorous technical knowledge.
She spent eight formative years at Boghossian, working between Old Bond Street in London and Geneva, two of the world’s most important centres for high jewellery and gemstones. This experience refined her approach to design, materials and craftsmanship, sharpening her eye for colour, precision and excellence at the highest level.
ZARILÙ is the natural outcome of this journey: a brand where passion meets discipline, creativity meets strategy, and jewellery is treated as both an art form and a cultural language, meant to be worn, lived with and passed on.
About the brand
ZARILÙ is a fine jewellery brand rooted in heritage, craftsmanship and the poetry of colour.
For ZARILÙ, jewellery is never merely decorative. It is a cultural language, a bearer of memory and identity, and a medium through which history, emotion and savoir-faire converge. Each piece is conceived with precision and sensitivity, honouring traditional craftsmanship while embracing a contemporary aesthetic.
The name ZARILÙ reflects the brand’s cross-cultural soul and spirit. Influenced by the Arabic undertones of Sicilian dialect and the historic ties between Sicily and the Mediterranean, where light and gold have travelled for centuries through trade and artistry, the name unites two essential elements: Zar, from the Persian word for gold, symbol of timeless beauty and value, and Lù, from luce, light, the force that brings every coloured gemstone to life.
A core part of the brand’s DNA is its love of colour. It comes through in the mix of coloured gemstones in each piece, as well as in the bright enamel shades of the Helia Collection, which can be customised to personal taste. The idea is to create jewellery that feels bold, fresh and expressive, while still staying elegant and timeless.
About the gemstones
Gemstones are selected with the same rigor and intention. Working with trusted suppliers around the world, ZARILÙ uses only high-quality natural gemstones, sourced responsibly and chosen for their character, depth of colour and individuality. Each stone is carefully evaluated for cut, colour, saturation and brilliance. The brand favours untreated gemstones, accepting only minimal, industry-standard treatments such as heating or oiling when they respect the stone’s natural integrity and beauty.
All diamonds are of natural origin, untreated and conflict free based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds and/or based on a testing protocol. We source only from suppliers that adhere to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCWS). All diamonds are F colour and VS clarity, unless otherwise noted.
About production
Craftsmanship is at the core of ZARILÙ’s approach. The brand works closely with selected artisans in Valenza, a historic and renowned centre of Italian jewellery making known for its technical excellence and long-standing goldsmithing tradition since the nineteenth century, as well as with a small number of specialists in Hamburg.
Collaborators are chosen according to the specific craft required, from goldsmithing and stone setting to enamelling and cutting. A single piece may pass through different workshops, ensuring that each stage of production is entrusted to the most skilled hands. This approach reflects a commitment to quality, transparency and a considered pace of making, where craftsmanship is valued as much as design.
